Help with the
practical tasks

Casework can help you organise information, prepare correspondence and work out which tasks need attention.

What casework involves

There can be a lot to keep track of: letters, forms, unanswered questions and conversations with different organisations. Casework focuses on helping you work through those tasks.

Ways we can help

01

Organise information

For example, put letters in date order and make a list of questions or replies still outstanding.

02

Prepare correspondence

For example, organise the points you want to include in a letter to a service. The task and any contact with others need to be agreed with you.

03

Contact services

Help communicate with the organisations involved, with your agreement, or identify where specialist help may be needed.

Working with us

We’ll discuss the help you need before agreeing what we can take on. Support is remote, by email, phone or video.

Please don’t send case files or identity documents with your first email. We can discuss what information is needed after considering your enquiry.

If you mainly need help expressing your views, advocacy may be useful too.

Before you enquire

Our support is for adults aged 18 or over affected by the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Enquiries are assessed individually, subject to capacity.

We don’t provide legal representation or attend hearings or appointments in person. We can’t guarantee an outcome or help with urgent deadlines.

Read Get support for free support and the enquiry process, including questions about conviction challenges and routes to legal advice.
