Help to explain
what matters to you
Advocacy can help when you’re finding it difficult to express your needs or get your concerns understood.

What advocacy involves
You might be unsure how to explain a problem, feel overwhelmed by a conversation or have questions you haven’t been able to ask.
An advocate helps you prepare and communicate your own views. We begin with what you want people to understand.
Ways we can help
Prepare for a conversation
For example, turn your concerns about a letter or appointment into a short list of questions you want to ask.
Communicate with professionals
Help put your questions and needs into words, and communicate them with your agreement.
Ask for clearer information
Identify what you don’t understand and what you need the relevant professional to explain.
Working with us
If we can offer support, we’ll agree what help you want and what we can do. We work remotely by email, phone or video. Let us know if there’s a way of communicating that works better for you.
If your main difficulty is keeping track of letters, information or tasks, read about casework. You don’t need to choose a service before contacting us.
Before you enquire
Our support is for adults aged 18 or over affected by the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Enquiries are assessed individually, subject to capacity.
We don’t provide legal representation or attend hearings or appointments in person. We can’t promise a particular outcome.
